Office Bearers

Session Clerks

The role of Session Clerk is shared between Marje Gillies, Liz Ronald and Christina Shafi.

The Session Clerk is a key figure in the life of the church, working closely with the minister and elders to support the smooth running of the congregation. They ensure that Kirk Session meetings are well‑organised, keep accurate records of decisions, and handle important correspondence on behalf of the Session.

Beyond administration, they provide guidance to elders, help communicate decisions to the wider congregation, and act as a trusted link between leadership and members. Their role combines organisation, communication, and care, helping the church remain welcoming, well‑governed, and connected.

Finance Committee

Douglas Dewar chairs our Finance Committee.

The Finance Committee oversees the financial life of the church, ensuring that resources are managed responsibly and transparently. They prepare budgets, monitor income and expenditure, and provide regular reports to the Kirk Session to support good decision‑making.

Working closely with the Treasurer and elders, the Finance Committee helps to safeguard the church’s funds, encourages good stewardship, and ensures that finances are used to support the mission and ministry of the congregation.

Treasurer

Our Treasurer is Robert Paton, CA.

The Treasurer is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day finances of the church. He keeps accurate records of income and expenditure, oversees banking and payments, and ensures that financial procedures are followed correctly.

Working closely with the Finance Convenor and Kirk Session, he helps prepare reports, supports budgeting, and ensures the church’s resources are used wisely to sustain its mission and activities.

Fabric Convenor

The role of Fabric Convenor is currently shared between John Henderson and Robert Paton.

The Fabric Convenor is responsible for the care and maintenance of the church buildings and halls. They oversee repairs, improvements, and routine upkeep, ensuring that all facilities remain safe, welcoming, and fit for purpose.

Working with contractors, volunteers, and the Kirk Session, the Fabric Convenor helps to preserve the fabric of the church for current use and future generations, supporting both worship and community activities.

Safeguarding Co-ordinator

Our Safeguarding Co-ordinator is Sue Taylor.

The Safeguarding Co-ordinator ensures that the church is a safe and welcoming place for everyone. She oversees safeguarding policies and procedures, provides guidance and training to volunteers and leaders, and acts as the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.

Working closely with the Kirk Session and national safeguarding teams, she helps protect children, young people, and vulnerable adults, ensuring that care and support are always available.

Data Protection Co-ordinator

Our Data Protection Co-ordinator is Eric Rushworth.

The Data Protection Co-ordinator ensures that the church handles personal information responsibly and in line with legal requirements. He oversees data protection policies, advises on best practice, and helps the congregation understand how information should be stored and shared safely.

Church Staff

Church Administrator

Our Church Administrator is Pam Martin.

The Church Administrator plays a vital role in supporting the daily life of the congregation. She manages office tasks, coordinates hall bookings, maintains records, and ensures that communication flows smoothly between the minister, elders, and members.

In addition, she looks after the day‑to‑day finance tasks, helping to keep accounts organised and supporting the Treasurer and Finance Convenor in managing the church’s resources.

Caretaker

Our Caretaker is David Park.

The Caretaker looks after the church buildings and halls on a day‑to‑day basis, ensuring they are clean, safe, and welcoming for all who use them. He sets up spaces for services and events, and carries out routine maintenance and practical tasks.

By keeping everything in good order, he helps create a comfortable environment where worship, meetings, and community activities can take place smoothly.

Children & Young People

We are committed to nurturing faith at all stages of life.  Our Sunday Club provides teaching and fellowship for children, led by an experienced Elder, with parents actively involved.  

Activities

Mearns Kirk offer a wide a varied range of activities for all ages and abilities. These include Brownie and Guide groups, musical classes and amateur theatre groups as well as meditation classes and yoga classes.  

Sunday Service

Our Sunday services are live streamed by a team of volunteers, making it possible for those at home to join in worship. Recordings of previous services are also available online – here.
